NCD Awareness and Screening Camp

IMG_9139The ‘National Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Awareness and Screening Camp’ was successfully held on July 26, 2016 (Tuesday) at Aizawl Theological College. It was jointly organised by the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Hypertension, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) and the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness (NPPCD).

The Programme was divided into two sessions: Awareness Programme and Screening Camp. The Awareness Programme was presided by Rev. Prof. Vanlalnghaka Ralte, Vice Principal, ATC and Dr Eric Zomawia, State Nodal Officer, NCD, presented about the Non-Communicable diseases and some important data of NCD. He underlined a healthy lifestyle and the importance of abstinence from unhealthy diet so as to prevent and control diseases, such as Cancer, Diabetes, Hypertension, Cardiovascular diseases and Stroke.

Dr. Lalthanmawii Khalthang, State Consultant, NPPCD, also gave a brief overview of National Programme for Prevention andIMG_9159 Control of Deafness. She encouraged the audience to take measures to prevent and control deafness by highlighting Impacted Ear Wax, Foreign body in the ear, Eustachian Tube Dysfunction, Acute Otitis Media, Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (SSOM), Voice induced hearing loss, Model rules under Factories Acts and Presbycusis.

The Awareness Programme was followed by the Screening Camp, in which the balance of weight and height, the Blood Pressure and Random Blood Sugar test were done free of cost. The counselling session was carried out by the Dieticians; the General and ENT free Clinic were opened; Audiometry, Physiotherapy, Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) and Pap smear test were also done in this Camp.
In this programme, 9 Doctors and 19 supporting team members came over to ATC, and 190 men, women and children in the Campus had the benefit of this.
